A.  A new title costs $50.  New plates are $36.  Plus your 5% sales tax.  If the vehicle was purchased from a licensed MA dealership, the 5% is based on your purchase price.  If it is a private party sale, the tax is based on whatever is higher - your purchase price or the book value.
